The 2006-2007 season has been an exciting one for the members and faculty of Dance Designs’ performance company, “SYNERGY.” This select group, directed by Jennifer Juliano and Jackie Lewis, has given its dancers the opportunity to bring their dance skills out of the classroom and onto the stage. These dedicated dancers, who range in age from seven to seventeen, were required not only to make it through a tough audition, but also maintain Synergy’s high standards throughout the year.

Synergy’s first performance was at The Festival of Thanksgiving held at Fair Lawn High School on November 24th, 2006. The Senior Tap division wowed the crowd dancing to the song “Do You Love Me.” Next, on January 13th and 14th, 2007 Synergy was lucky enough to take part in the PULSE tour. This intense weekend of training allowed many of our Synergy Dancers to take classes and learn choreography from front-runners in the commercial dance world, including Mia Michaels, Wade Robson, Laurieann Gibson, Shane Sparks, Brian Friedman, and Chris Judd. These choreographers have been featured on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance”, MTV’s “Making the Band” and countless music videos. In addition, select members of the Synergy Jazz division were given the opportunity to perform during a showcase held on the first night of the tour. If that was not enough excitement for one weekend, our very own Robert Burke was awarded a scholarship to the New York division of the Pulse Tour and invited to participate in Brian Freidman’s Summer Intensive. Synergy was also featured at Dance Designs’ very own Super Dance Sunday on January 21st, 2007.

Since then, Synergy has not only grown in size, but also performed at larger venues. On February 24th, 2007 Synergy was a large part of the nationwide Day of Dance program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. Our dancers performed four different pieces at this event in support of cardiovascular health. This event also featured Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff of “Dancing with the Stars” fame. On March 22nd, 2007 Synergy has been given the honor of dancing as the pre-game entertainment at a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. So far Synergy Dancers have quite a lot to be proud of!

The rest of the 2006-2007 holds some great events. Synergy will be dancing at sports nights, fundraisers, and even at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World! On April 14th, 2007 Synergy is hosting a Spaghetti dinner at the Fair Lawn Knights of Columbus to raise money for their upcoming trip to Florida.
